Rüdesheim
Germany
Hessen is the "land" right in the heart of Germany.
Here, in the west of Frankfurt, only 30 minutes car drive from the
international airport and very close to Wiesbaden, a spa, and to Mainz,
a cathedral town, is the Rheingau. Not very far from Heidelberg and
the legendary Loreley.

The Rheingau region
One of those remarkable quirks of nature makes the Rhine abandon its
northward course and bend towards the southwest between Mainz and
Rüdesheim. This gives the hills along the right bank of the Rhine a
sunny location, whose winegrowing potential was already exploited by
the Romans. In the meantime the Rheingau has developed into a
unique wine and cultural landscape. At Rüdesheim, the gentle hills of
the Upper Rheingau around the former residence of Eltville give way to
imposing steep slopes that are reminiscent of the Middle Rhine.
Formidable castles and majestic mansions, sleepy towns with
halftimbered puses and magnificent monasteries, ruined estates and
respendent palaces, busy vineyards and vaulted cellars with
atmosphere - this is the multifaceted mix that makes the Rheingau a
frequently visited ornamental garden. Here grow Germany's most
famous Riesling wines.
The town of Rüdesheim
At the entrance to the famous Loreley valley, right in the center of the
Rheingau wine growing region and in the golden middle of the Rhine's
course is Rüdesheim. Since the 19th century an attraction for the
romantic travellers it is today one of the most visited towns considering
the modest number of only 7000 residents. Among the major
landmarks are the national monument on the Niederwald hill,
inaugurated in 1883, the famouse vineyards iof the Rüdesheim Berg
and the worldfamous Drosselgasse. Rüdesheim and the town of
Bingen on the opposite river side are the gate to the Unesco world
heritage Middle Rhine valley.
